Life’s a Beach

Laura and I had the best Christmas ever.  We got to bring our little “M-Bean” home on December 25th.  We were both elated and exhausted, but it was everything we wanted it to be and more than we could’ve ever hoped for.  Then on Saturday, we had a routine follow up with our local pediatrician.  And Emily was a bit jaundice.  So, to make a long story short, we got a return ticket to the hospital for an additional 24 hours of photo therapy.

Don’t let the pictures here fool you.  As far as we could tell, Emily was diggin’ her nic-u (we’ve been watching too many hospital dramas) tanning booth.  She spent 12 hours sprawled out with plenty of room, basking in warmth and light and getting fed every two hours, while mom and dad were crammed head to toe on a fold out cot, recording diaper contents and food intake.

Twenty four hours later, we were back at home again, still elated and a little more exhausted, but very ready, as Laura put it, “to be three” for a little while….

Light at the End of the Tunnel

Today’s the day.  We’re as ready as we’re ever going to be.  Laura and I are very grateful for all of the support and kindness we’ve received along the way – we’re incredibly lucky to have so many great people in our lives.

Time to leap…..

A Baby Story

Twas the week before baby
and after cleaning the house
Patrick & Laura parked their butts on the couch
the crib and the play-n-go had been assembled with care
in hopes that b2b soon would be there
Soft fuzzy blankets had been folded and stacked by the bed
as visions of baby parts danced in our heads.

And Laura in her stretch pants and I in my fleece cap
finally pulled down the shades for a much needed nap
when from over on Laura’s side there arose such a clatter
I forced myself to roll over and mumble “what’s the matter?”
“Put your hand over here!” she exclaimed, “Come on, hurry!”
B2B was kicking those feet in a flurry.
“I can feel my belly tighten with all of those kicks.”
“Should we rush to the hospital?”
“No,” she said calmly, “It’s just Braxton-Hicks.”

Happy Monday!

Today it’s time to decorate the tree!  Can’t believe B2B will be here in only 8 more days!!!!!!

How sweet it is!!

These images are the result of a mini artist date where I visited a bakery that I’d read about in a local magazine, 4 and Twenty Blackbirds Bakeshop in Guilford, CT.  Honestly, I was trying to kill two birds (no pun intended) with one stone.  I could potentially get some interesting items to photograph and have a killer desert plate for Laura tonight to celebrate the beginning of her maternity leave.  The hardest part was not eating the subjects as I photographed them…..

It’s what’s on the inside that counts.

Today I had the pleasure of photographing a good friend and fellow visual professional – a winning combination to be sure.  Meet Jane, the driving force and talent behind Jane Speroff Interiors, LLC.  The creative challenge here was to try to take all of the amazing qualities that make her such an extraordinary designer/decorator (believe me, they add up to far more than the sum of their parts) and a genuinely good person and distill them into a “visual first impression”.  I believe we accomplished our goal – and just as importantly, I enjoyed every minute of the process.

Unfinished Business

Working a little late tonight.  Thought I would continue with my ribbons.  And why not make them blue…20091208_blog_001

Wrap it Up

Today’s images are a very humble tribute to one of the (very recently) late contemporary masters, Irving Penn.  While I could wax poetic about his influence on the world of photography, if you’re at all curious, just google him and spend some time looking at the genius of a real life photographic visionary.

Synchronicity

I almost threw these out on Monday.  They were in the “moved these twice and haven’t used them yet” pile.  I think I was motivated to try and clear some space out to make room for all of the baby stuff.  Or maybe it’s because Laura has been watching Hoarders.  Anyway, everything else made its way to the dump / recycling bin / goodwill.  And out of all of it – all of the stuff I’ve been rationalizing a “some day” use for,  I kept these.  I didn’t even try to find somewhere to put them.  Five rolls of the stuff have been sitting in my finishing space for the past three days.  And now, well… at least I know why they’re still here.
